Folsom Street Fair

Today was the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. For those of you who may not know what this event is, let me explain. This is basically an event for people who have leather, dominatrix, and just plain strange fetishes. This year was the 27th celebration. It is a very popular San Francisco event with nearly 400,000 people in attendance and the event covers 13 city blocks!
On my bart ride home I encountered several scantily clad, leather-wearing, folsom street fair attendees. I was highly disappointed that I did not have my camera so that I could snap a real shot and post it here, but it was probably for the best as I saved you the horror of seeing an actual picture.

Feathers!

The necklace on the left is absolutely amazing. This is part of the advertisement for Forever 21's Twelve by Twelve line. I can't find the necklace on the online store. I am going to have to hunt for it! Why would you feature something and then not sell it?

Wish list Wednesday

Wishlist Weds.Looking at magazines and blogs on an almost daily basis makes it apparent that there are many things you would love to pretend are in your own closet. That is why I am going to instate Wish list Wednesdays here on my blog where I post some of the things I've found a desire to own. They may never become part of my real closet but I'll sure have a fabulous wish closet! P.S. My favorite item is the "Lorissa" studded heels. They would make any outfit glam! I'd love to pair them with a simple LBD or even a great pair of dark wash skinny jeans, a tee and a boyfriend blazer. Love them!

Bugging out (literally)

I am so excited! Last quarter for my Concepts in Trend Forecasting Class we chose a megatrend to present to our class. I chose a seemingly obscure topic: bugs. Usually when we think of bugs it's with disgust but we should really be starting to think about them in terms of what role they may play in fashion. Let's face it, bugs are gross but they are also fascinating. So when I saw my trend starting to appear in designer collections I was elated. One such designer who has  picked up on the bug trend is Bottega Veneta. The current accessories collection called Nature in Fashion features bugs as centerpieces of their design. The bug they mainly feature is the Scarab Beetle. Just look at these amazing items:

Elle magazine cover under scrutiny

We all know that magazines and print ads are notorious for their copious amounts of airbrushing and retouching of advertisements / images. Often these refinishing details become controversial as an article that appeared on yahoo.com today suggested. The issue in question is if the 25th anniversary edition cover of  Elle magazine, featuring actress Gabourey Sidibe, has been retouched to make her skin color to appear lighter. Of course, Elle magazine denies that any major retouching (like skin lightening) has been done to the photo. Say what they will, but look at the pictures...

Seriously?!

Seriously, SPEIDI?! Haven't we heard enough already about these two? They're together, they're not together. Heidi regrets all her surgeries, Spencer should regret all that facial hair! So are they back together or not? Apparently they might be (at least for the next few days...haha.) According to an AP video I just watched, Spencer has found a new "appreciation" for his wife after she stood by him when the two were detained in an airport for carrying two unloaded guns. Say what? Yes, you read that correctly...guns. Why would they knowingly go through airport security with guns...especially in this day-and-age? Yeah, idk...beyond my understanding...
And now they are pictured together at a walk for breast cancer awareness? Decide already ppl...are you together or not?
And Spencer...really?! Cut the freaking beard already. Does he have any friends? A real friend would pin him down and shave that nastiness!

A bit from fashion week 2011

This dress was featured in Preen's 2011 Spring collection and is my favorite item from the collection.

Preen's Spring 2011 collection featured a minimalist theme in neutral palettes of cream, white, black, beige, gray. Tops were sheer and suits were masculine in cut and style. Stiff and structured pieces were paired with flowing, sheer blouses and complimented by strappy sandals.

Cat Fever

Some of the coolest cats are the ones that look like tigers and lions. My family has a cat who has spots and stripes like an Ocelot tiger. He is an Ebony Silver Ocicat and his name is Wiley. Here is what he looks like:

There are some other really neat looking cats called Bengals that I would love to own

Aldo September

Aldo is currently running a pretty aggressive ad campaign at many BART stations. Here are some images of the ads in the Powell St. station

Aldo September
I'd have to say the ad was rather effective given the fact that my interest was peaked enough for me to look online at some of their new
merchandise.

Military is everywhere for the fall. . . including my feet

Wars have always influenced fashion trends and this fall season is no exception. The war in Iraq may finally be coming to an end but its still influencing our culture.

Including my own wardrobe:
